She Said He Said, Style

Embracing Summer Swimwear

I have a confession to make: Summer is a season I always dream of through the grey wet days that came before, but as soon as it comes round I wish it away quickly. This year Summer was slow to make an appearance. After all that incessant rain and terrible flooding that dragged into June came weeks of glorious almost-too-hot temperatures.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the warmer weather and the few pieces I have in my “Summer” wardrobe, I am especially proud of. Though the reason for me wishing it away is because there is something that makes me incredibly uncomfortable with all that extra skin that will be on display, those inevitable sweat patches, fabric that is unforgiving and clings to all those curves, sandals that give you blisters and, of course, that moment when you look down at your perfectly moisturized silky smooth legs only to discover that in fact they are in desperate need of further moisturising, and to my horror there are hairs sprouting all over them. Not to mention the extensive hair removal process itself (which I feel we should definitely talk about soon).

Summer for me is always an extra effort that I like to shy away from. Not this year though, NO! Or so I like to think.

Matt and I spent three weeks out of the city this year to enjoy the sun and plenty of pool time in the French countryside. I decided I would pamper myself from head to toe and try to look good while working on my tan even with all that extra pale skin on display. I decided to invest in something practical and something pretty for my time poolside. Knowing only where to find my something pretty piece I decided to look for help from the swimwear queen herself, Miss Audrey from Frassy, who had more than a few suggestions for affordable swimwear that inspired me to try something a little different this year at La Redoute. It is not a brand I am familiar with at all — not since the days of home catalogues that is — so I was surprised at the incredibly wide range of swimwear they had at really affordable prices. At £15 for a bikini I was impressed, although the smallest size I bought was pretty big on me, so when it arrived I decided it was nothing that a little alteration wouldn’t fix.

So there you have it, I bought something against my religion: from a mail order store at a discount price because “scraps of fabric to cover your privates shouldn’t be expensive” … maybe Audrey has a point.
