The Sweater Life
‘Tis the season to stay warm! For us in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s cold. I have only 3 sweaters, 1 of which is a knit, so I’m considering adding something new to keep warm with.
Ever a sucker for an interesting colour, pattern or vibe, I’ve picked out a few sweaters that I thought had a life of their own to warm up my winter with.
Issey Miyake is a brand I’ve always enjoyed from afar. I’m not sure I’m ballsy or stylish enough to wear their super cool pieces, but this interestingly dotted sweater I thought was an interesting take on a woollen jumper.
J.W. Anderson is a brand whose playfulness I really admire. Following the accounts on Instagram too he (and the brand) posts a lot of contemporary and old modern art, which I really respect. I feel there’s a great appreciation for art, design, culture and being a provocateur, i.e. not just following the rules (I’m really reading a lot into a sweater, aren’t I?) that I wanted to include a piece by him.
Barena’s an old italian fashion house which I had never heard of before, but I really liked the colour of this camel knit, and I like the knitted raglan shoulder seams give it a cool designed quality.
Valentino is another old italian fashion house with a pretty cool edge. Always impressing me with their couture shows, I actually was searching for an alpaca knit and was pleasantly surprised to find one by them with a neato-but-kinda-kooky look. Always nice when brands do something a bit weird. Not sure if they really hit the mark with this one (I do really like the material, colour and cable knit), however I like the risk they took.
